Getting Started

Welcome to editing the SPL Wiki. This guide provides introductory information on the screen layout of this wiki, how to edit existing pages, create new pages, format text, upload files and images, and create links. It also provides references to editing guides for more advanced users.

What's on the Screen

If you have not changed the skin of this wiki (which can be done using the preferences section), take a few minutes to get oriented with what is on your screen:

Left Column: In the left column of this screen is a navigation box, a search box, and a toolbox. The navigation box contains links for content pages created by the SPL Intweb team, the search box searches for matching text on the pages of this wiki, and the toolbox contains links to some interesting automatically generated pages. Feel free to click on some of the content pages in the navigation box to browse the content pages of this wiki, and then use the Wiki Editing Guide link to come back to this page.

Tabs Row: At the top of each page, there is a row of tabs of which you should become familiar with at least the first four : article, discussion, edit, history. When you are reading a particular page, you are by default in the "article" tab. Clicking on the "history" tab will show you a history of all the changes made to that page. We look at how to edit an existing page using the "edit" tab in the Edit Existing Page section.

Login, preferences links: At the top right of the screen, there are links specific to your account, including: login id, my talk, preferences etc.
