Slicer 3.2

Preparations are underway for a major new release of Slicer 3, called Slicer 3.2. The release is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, 2008.

The new release is based on recently released versions of vtk (5.0), itk (3.6), and cmake (2.6). The entire build infrastructure of Slicer was modified to enable the use of new features available in the underlying packages. Major features have been added in comparison to the Slicer 3.0 release from January 2008. See below for highlights. However, some features of Slicer3 are not fully tested. Highlights
Fully integrated volume rendering with cropping
Implicit Slice Widget for specifying oblique views (part of the VTK widget family).
The Lightbox: Tools for viewing cross-sections
Interactive Editor allows interactive segmentation with powerful 2D and 3D algorithms
IO capabilities include DICOM, NRRD, NIFTI, Tiff, JPG, Freesurfer and FITS
Diffusion Imaging infrastructure includes a variety of components such as
dicom import
gradient editor
visualiztion
Remote Data Handling allows uploads and downloads from image informatics frameworks such as BIRN, and XNAT
OpenIGTLink interfaces to devices such as scanners, trackers, and robots
