 The fore- and background support 2 sets of images you can view in the same panel and fade between. You could assign the 3 slice viewers to individual images, but to look at 3 or more images simultaneously we recommend the CompareView module.
 In the View Layout menu, select "Compare" and then the "3 viewers" for example. You will get three orange colored slice viewers where each can be assigned a separate image.

 To see the position of the cursor in all views, turn on the Crosshairs in the toolbar. You can save and restore different view layouts via the "Scene Capture" buttons in the top right of the toolbar.
