3D Slicer brand

We have rebranded 3D Slicer for the release of version 3.0 of the software. Visual requirements for the brand were that it reflect the core values, appear three-dimensional, reveal (three) information-rich cut-away slices, contain some color-associations with related and supporting brands, and visually refer back to the original Slicer logo. The new brand definition consists of the following:

  • New slicer logo
  • Color palette and font specification
  • Usage rules
  • Various format description of all logo variations
  • Favicon version of the color logo

Five Logo Formats

Logos are available in full color and monochromatic versions of a vertical and horizontal format. A modified-form logo is available for desktop icon, favicon and other extremely low-resolution static or dynamic-resizing applications.

A fresh copy of the icon file

A macos .icns file was created at 512 resolution with a correct alpha channel and checked into the slicer4 repository by editing the pdf file for the vertical logo and removing the elements not included in the Desktop Icon design. The program Inkscape was used to edit the pdf file and export png for use with the Icon Composer tool in XCode. An svg version of the icon was also committed for future reference.
